In October 1970, Nixon was president, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was 838, America’s involvement in Vietnam was in its fifth year and a gallon of gas cost $.36. It was also when the Virginia Beach City Council unanimously voted to support a credit union as an additional benefit of employment. Virginia Beach Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union, as we were originally known, was founded to give municipal employees, retirees, volunteers and their families a safe place to save and borrow money. From modest beginnings in a broom closet on the third floor of Building 1 at the Municipal Center, we’ve become more than just another financial institution…we’ve become your friend, your family and your partner in achieving your financial dreams.
This year, we proudly celebrate our 50th anniversary. We realize our success can be attributed to the combination of loyalty and dedication shown by our membership, volunteers and staff. We will be commemorating this milestone throughout 2020 with various promotions and events. We hope you will join us for the celebration and for many years to come.
