Protecting Your Personal Information

Protecting your personal information is our highest priority. We are dedicated to ensuring your identity and data remain secure. You might have heard alarming stories about identity theft victims who find out that loans or credit cards have been opened in their name, leading to significant debts. If you believe this could never happen to you, reconsider. Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the country.

The effects are devastating; it can take months to clear up your damaged credit history, and during that time, you might find it impossible to secure a loan, rent an apartment, or even write a check.

How Can I Protect Myself?

What steps can I take to help prevent identity theft?
  • Do not give out personal information, such as account or credit card numbers, over the phone or online unless you have initiated the contact yourself.
  • Report lost or stolen checks immediately.
  • Destroy unused credit card offers. A shredder can be a valuable investment!
  • Guard your Debit Card number, and treat your receipts with care.
  • Make sure your mailbox is secure, and promptly remove mail when it has been delivered.
  • Free, secure online credit reports are available weekly from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion through annualcreditreport.com. You should review your reports at least annually or if your information has been exposed in a data breach.

Am I secure?

If you are using an old internet browser, you are opening the door to hackers and other cybercriminals. Updated versions of your favorite browsers include security patches that will help keep your information safe. To enhance security, updates to internet protocols now require all users to upgrade their browsers. If you don’t make these updates, you may lose access to home banking, bill payment, and other financial services.
